Tryon Congregational Fellowship Group meets Friday night for supper at 6:30 at the church parlor. Dr. Mary Warfield will lead a round table discussion of care and rear ing of children. Each member is requested to bring in written ques tions for discussion . . Tonight is bridge and canasta night at Lanier Library ..... Last Friday at Rotary, Miss Frances Knapenber ger, a cousin of Mrs. George, W. Whitehead, gave an interesting talk on Arabia. Miss Knapen berger is an accountant with the Arabia Oil Co., at Sudi where she has been for the past two and a half years. Prior to that she was with Standard Oil and Texas Oil Co. She talked about the customs and the people and the interesting life .lived there. One 30-inch oil pipe at Sudi is 1,100 miles long and goes 8 miles out into the sea to retich sea going ships. While here Miss --Continued on Back'Page_ Parents and Cubs Have Blue and Gold Dinner The Cub Scouts of Tryon Pack 1, met in the Congregational Church House Monday night for a dinner meeting. The dinner was cooked and served by Den Moth ers, Mrs. John McGuinn, Mrs. John L. Shields, Mrs. Herbert Butler, Mrs. Ralph Farthing and Mrs. Arthur Reynolds. Butler’s Dairy contributed the ice cream. A flag was presented to Den 3 for the best achievement record during 1950 and awards were made as follows: Victor Turner, Roy Dean White side, lion; Benny Smith, bear; Henry Smith, Donny Farthing, James McCain, wolf; Jimmy Shields, Bobby Lawrence, Danny Edwards, Billy Butler, John Mc Guinn, David Martin, Billy Mc Call, wolf gold; Philip Pack, bob cat. Henry Bartol, Cubmaster, ex plained the importance of having each Cub parent participate in these meetings and plans are now being worked oat for the forma ation of a new den. Mill Spring Ruritans To Hear Ex-Steel Executive The Mill Spring Ruritan Club will have a ladies’ night program Thursday and will have as guest speaker, George W. Whitehead, re tired steel executive from Buffalo, N. Y., who is now making his home here. Mr. Whitehead will tell how steel is made and some of the uses for it. Charlie Cochran of the IT. S. Marines is home for a visit with his parents, at*, and Mrs. Frank Cochran.
